Jeff Fultz Hopes to Get First Season Win Early at the Early Bird
Veteran Short Track Racer Up For Next Challenge at Birmingham
Jeff Fultz already has one race under his belt for the 2007 season. Now, he is about to add another as he heads to Birmingham International Raceway for the annual Early Bird event February 24th- 25th, 2007. He plans on coming out of Birmingham with a trophy.
“We will be heading to Birmingham for the Early Bird,” said Fultz. “Last year, I went to Lakeland in my car, and we ended up getting it all torn up. This year we are going down to the Early Bird just to have a little bit of fun.”
“It is a 100-lap race. It’s not too crazy expensive of a race to run, so you don’t have to have a full crew or all of that stuff. We are going to load up, head down there and have a little fun. We are going to see if we can get us (a win) down there.”
Fultz has won at plenty of tracks throughout the Southeast, but Birmingham is one that he has yet to claim while running the Super Late Model.
“I haven’t won at the Early Bird before. I have been (to Birmingham) lots of time in the All Pro stuff. The Late Models are really fun to run there; you just have to spend a little bit more time on them to get them a little bit better.
“We have been decent at some places we have run, and then we have a little bit of bad luck and get all tore up like we did at Lakeland. We had a really good run at Lakeland; we just had a tire go down that led to a disappointing finish compared to what we would have had.”
While Fultz hasn’t had the best of luck out on the track in his Super Late Model recently, one thing that he has going for him heading into this event is that Birmingham is just the kind of track that he likes.
“I like running Birmingham a lot. It’s flat; it is one of my favorite tracks, from back when we ran All Pro there. It’s old, it has been around a long time, and it’s worn out. I like the older places better than I do the new places, and I like flat tracks. One of my favorite things to do is go run on a flat track. I don’t know how many cars will be down there, but it is a big race to run and should be fun.
“I know that Charlie (Bradberry) used to run it and he won at the track several times. It would be pretty cool to be able to do what he has done in the past and win a big-time race there. Teddy Musgrave and I are going to go down there as teammates, and we plan on having some fun.”
The Early Bird Weekend at Birmingham International Raceway will get underway on Saturday, February 24th, and last through Sunday, the 25th.
