After taking the final USAR Hooters Pro Cup Southern Division regular-season event at USA International Speedway off, Jeff Fultz and the JCR3 racing team are looking forward to getting back in the seat and back out on the track this weekend at the brand new Iowa Speedway, located in Newton, IA. This event marks the first race of the USAR Hooters Pro Cup Championship Series and what Fultz hopes is a turnaround for him and his team.
“We are pretty excited to be heading to Iowa,” said Fultz. “The guys in the shop have been working really hard, we have built a new car to go there since Bristol and we are pretty excited. We have Gary Crooks back with us to help call the shots, and Shane Huffman’s old crew chief Jefferson Hodges is going to be coming with us and helping us out this weekend for this race to consult with us and stuff like that. So we will see how that goes.”
Iowa Speedway will be one of the biggest and fastest tracks that the USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series races on throughout the season, and that is one advantage that the former NASCAR Southeast Series Champion may have over the rest of the competitors. He has run on larger sized tracks, and none of the USAR Hooters Pro Cup series Championship Series competitors have competed on this new track.
“The biggest thing is that these cars are quite a bit different from what I used to run at the bigger tracks. We have struggled all year, just being new to the series and all. When we have gotten to these tracks we have been off just a little bit, and when you are off just a little bit in this series it is pretty tough to gain anything out on the track.
“I think we will be good for Iowa, though,” added Fultz. “The motor program is working really hard and the guys are getting the cars to where we are not breaking things. When we started out early in the year we were really good at a lot of the tracks and then when we started breaking things. It really put us in a hole, so hopefully with this new car we won’t have a lot of issues and we can bring home a good finish.”
The Soy BioDiesel 250 will get underway Friday September 15, 2006 at 8:00 pm at Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa.
The race can be seen on SPEED Channel the following Wednesday, September 20th at 4:00pm and on Friday September 22nd at noon.
