Return of Joe Shear Jr. Has Fultz Excited After Peach State
Pro Cup Rookie Still Getting A Feel For New Cars
On paper, Jeff Fultz might not have a lot that came out of Saturday night’s Aaron’s 250 USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series Southern Division race at Peach State Speedway worth smiling about, but when the race was over, Fultz was more than happy about his 29th-place finish.
Fultz was more than excited because his 29th-place finish didn’t show how strong his #54 C & C Boiler Sales & Service / JCR3 Racing Pontiac really was since reuniting with crew chief Joe Shear Jr.

“The car was really good and it helps big time that we got Joe Shear back,” said Fultz.  “He’s been helping me for a while in my other racing and now he’s back with us here.  Joe and I really work so well together.  The car was super fast all day long.  We just didn’t get to show it in the end.

“I messed up qualifying because we were a top-10 car for sure.  It is the first time this year where I can say that I tried too hard.   I screwed up the lap, so we had to start back.  We sliced up through the field at the start and got about 10 spots.
The car was good and getting better and better, just like all Joe Shear Jr. cars always get.   Then, we cut a right front tire and when that happened, it bent the sway bar arm.  We got a lap down because they said I caused a caution.  I did, because I just stopped to come into the pits rather than cut in front of everyone.  It wasn’t meant to be an intentional caution, but that is how (the Pro Cup officials) viewed it.  I ended up making up the lap and drove by the leader like he was standing still.  The car was really good, but we ended up cutting a couple of other right front tires.   They are working on it today and we’ll find out what went wrong.

“I was happy, because I knew when we were competitive.  I was mad at first, but I knew we were better than that.  We’re getting the program better by getting someone with us that knows more of what they are doing with the cars.  I think we’ve got good things for the future.”

Jeff will return to action on August 23rd, when the Pro Cup Series returns to action at Bristol Motor Speedway for the Food City 150.

Fultz was fast at Peach State, but a number of flat tires ruined his chances at winning.
